Now all you need to do is figure out the right size for that precious rock. Wondering how to calculate out the sizing our shop uses? We’ve got you covered. Here’s your guide on how to find your ring size: South Africa edition!

How Do I Know My Ring Size?

To figure out the right size for your ring, you need to know where it is coming from. In the English-speaking world, you’ll generally see two types of sizing, depending on the location of the store. There is North American ring sizing and international ring sizing. 

You will find that Mexico, Canada, and the United States use one ring sizing system, while the rest of the English-speaking world uses another system. This ring sizing system of the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand is the same as the one we use here in South Africa. If you are looking at a ring through Shiny Rock Polished, you want to know your South African ring sizing.

How Do South African Ring Sizes Work?

In South Africa, ring sizes are represented by letters of the alphabet. Every 0.75 mm of the ring’s inside circumference will move you up one half of a size.

How To Measure Your Ring Size Using String

Want to measure your ring size at home? Grab a cloth measuring tape. Don’t have a sewing kit on hand? Grab a piece of wire, yarn, or non-stretchy fabric along with a tape measure along with a marker. Not sure where the tape measure is? Open this tape measure website page in a new tab and keep it handy. 

If you have that cloth measuring tape, the process is a bit easier. If not, cut a piece of wire or string and wrap it around your finger. Pay attention to make sure it’s comfortable and not too tight or loose.

Once you have that non-stretchy piece of something wrapped around your finger, make a mark on it to see what the exact length is. Next up, take the measure of the completed circle part of the wire or string. From here check the inside circumference.
